African leaders call for global response to health crises

At the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, African heads of state emphasized the urgent need for concerted action to address global health threats. The discussions, led by prominent figures, highlighted the challenges of combating malaria. Reduced funding, biological resistance, and humanitarian crises were among the obstacles identified.

A strong call was made to support the Global Fund, which is crucial in the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, and whose eighth replenishment aims for $18 billion. The leaders insisted on innovative financing and greater autonomy in the management of health resources in Africa.

Public-private partnerships have been touted as a viable solution to secure sustainable financing, while pan-African initiatives are boosting continental engagement. For the Africa CDC director, turning crises into opportunities is essential for a promising future.
