Cornell University Enhances Research with AIXTRON's MOCVD System
On September 30, 2025, Cornell University installed its first AIXTRON Close Coupled Showerhead® (CCS) Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) system. This acquisition aims to strengthen the university's Materials Science Department by advancing research capabilities on Scandium and Yttrium materials, critical for next-generation electronics.
The system allows the deposition of high-quality thin films, crucial for materials research and device development. Incorporating Scandium and Yttrium can significantly improve piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties, optimizing advanced electronic components. This capability marks a notable upgrade for Cornell's research infrastructure.
AIXTRON has tailored the MOCVD tool to handle low-vapor-pressure precursors with high precision. Prof. Hari Nair emphasized the importance of this acquisition for pioneering research in material properties, while Dr. Felix Grawert, CEO of AIXTRON, expressed pride in supporting Cornell's research advancements.
