Alstom Expands Train Fleet in Australia with New €270m Deal
Alstom has secured a €270 million contract to supply 25 additional X’trapolis 2.0 trains to Australia, as part of an expansion with the Victorian Government. This follows an initial 2021 contract and doubles the fleet to 50 trains. The deal highlights a 60% local content mandate, thereby boosting the regional rail supply sector in Victoria.
The X’trapolis 2.0, derived from Alstom’s Adessia platform, supports Victoria's manufacturing sector, maintaining hundreds of skilled jobs. Designed for efficiency, it offers enhancements like a 1,225 passenger capacity, accessibility features, and modern technological integrations. The first unit began service in May 2026, gradually replacing the aging fleet.
Alstom's solutions are integral globally, with over 48,000 commuter train cars in use across 60 rail systems, serving millions daily. This new order will be recorded in the second quarter of its fiscal year 2026/27.
