Alstom to Enhance Houston Airport's Skyway System
Alstom has secured a €380 million contract to upgrade and refurbish the Skyway automated people mover (APM) at Houston Intercontinental Airport. The agreement includes a 15-year extension for operations and maintenance services. The project involves replacing the existing system with 16 new Innovia APM R vehicles and modernizing station infrastructure for enhanced capacity and passenger experience.
The renovation supports the airport’s expansion, aiming to improve passenger flow and reduce disruptions. A new Operations Control Center and upgraded train control systems are included to increase reliability. Service will continue seamlessly through interim busing during construction phases.
A dedicated 48-person team will handle operations and maintenance, ensuring high availability. The project builds on Alstom’s two-decade partnership with the airport. Alstom’s technology leverages over 40 years of experience to optimize operational efficiency and reduce costs.
