Modernization of the Lausanne m2 metro by Alstom

Alstom has been awarded a €295 million contract to modernize Lausanne's m2 metro system. This project includes the installation of a next-generation CBTC system and a mid-life upgrade of the train fleet. The m2 network, unique in Switzerland, will benefit from increased service frequencies, thereby expanding its capacity and meeting growing passenger demand. The Urbalis Fluence CBTC system, with its train-centric architecture, will maximize flexibility while requiring minimal infrastructure modifications.

In parallel, the mid-life upgrade of the trains will take place at Alstom's Villeneuve site, integrating the new TCMS system with CBTC. Improvements will also be made to the interior and exterior spaces of the trainsets, thus increasing their reliability. The work is scheduled to minimize disruption, with nighttime operations planned.
