Alzchem Group AG Utilizes Surplus Hydrogen to Reduce CO₂ Emissions
Alzchem Group AG, based in Trostberg, has initiated an ecological advancement by incorporating surplus hydrogen as a primary energy source. A recently installed pipeline transports hydrogen to the plant for clean energy processes, replacing natural gas.
The hydrogen, a by-product from production, is directed through a 500-meter pipeline to the waste gas incineration plant. This transition from natural gas to hydrogen achieves significant energy efficiency and ecological benefits. Natural gas usage is now limited to a safety backup role. The pipeline, operational since October 2024, underlines the company’s commitment to sustainability.
With the new system, Alzchem anticipates lowering CO₂ emissions by 1,000 tonnes annually, aligning with its roadmap to achieve CO₂ neutrality by 2033. The shift also fosters cost reductions, showcasing the dual economic and environmental gains of this technological advancement.
