Safran adopts deep geothermal energy to decarbonize its Villaroche site
Safran Aircraft Engines, a leader in aeronautical propulsion, is partnering with Dalkia and Arverne Group to establish a deep geothermal power plant in Villaroche, in the Paris region. This innovative project aims to reduce the industry's carbon footprint, representing a first in the region.
The future geothermal installation will replace 84% of the current energy, from gas, with a low-carbon solution. The planned drilling will reach a depth of 1,650 meters to exploit water at 75°C. The commissioning of the plant is planned for the end of 2026, with an annual reduction of 6,500 tons of CO2.
This partnership marks a significant step forward towards a decarbonized and exemplary industry in terms of energy. It is also part of Safran's broader strategy in favor of renewable energies, highlighting the importance of geothermal energy in the French energy landscape.
