Criticism of the "Transport '45" plan in Switzerland
The Swiss Federal Council's "Transport '45" plan is drawing criticism for its development priorities up to 2045. At a conference in Bern, business and political leaders stressed the need to revise the plan and increase investment in national highways. They believe the current direction does not align with the country's traffic needs and economic requirements.
Figures such as Benjamin Giezendanner, Jacqueline de Quattro, Fabio Regazzi, and Peter Grünenfelder emphasize that the project unfairly favors rail over road infrastructure. The current, often record-breaking, traffic jams and resulting bottlenecks are not being adequately addressed. Projects like the Zurich bypass and the widening of the N1 are considered crucial.
Mobility is essential for the Swiss economy. Roads and logistics must be efficient for trade and industry. Auto-suisse criticizes the lack of clear funding for rail extensions and calls for a polluter-pays approach.
