Commerzbank Completes €600 Million Share Buyback, Seeks Approval for Additional €400 Million
Commerzbank AG has finalized the first tranche of its third share buyback program, acquiring 38,837,806 shares, equivalent to 3.278% of its share capital, for €600 million. The buyback, which began on November 7, 2024, reflects the bank's commitment to returning at least 70% of its 2024 net result to shareholders, as stated by CEO Bettina Orlopp.
Commerzbank has applied to the European Central Bank and the German Finance Agency to initiate a second tranche of up to €400 million. The 2024 capital return will comprise dividends and share buybacks across two phases. This buyback, potentially reaching €1 billion, marks the bank’s largest in history.
