Regulatory Challenges and Bottlenecks Impact SDV Development, QNX Reports

QNX, a division of BlackBerry, has published new research highlighting the challenges faced by automotive software developers. The report titled "Under the Hood: The SDV Developer Report" surveyed 1,100 developers globally. Key findings revealed that regulatory pressures, software recalls, and development inefficiencies are stalling the progress of software-defined vehicles (SDV).

The study identifies that 58% of developers have altered their development approach due to recent recalls. Additionally, 80% recommend automakers focus more on application-layer innovations rather than foundational software infrastructure. The complexity of integration and long development cycles are significant challenges highlighted by 36% of participants.

AI is poised to play a transformative role, with 91% of developers expecting significant contributions in the near future. However, the strategic emphasis is shifting towards cross-industry partnerships and collaboration to foster innovation.
