Bybit Files Lawsuit Against North Korea and Lazarus Group
Bybit, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has initiated a civil lawsuit in the U.S. District Court against North Korea, its Reconnaissance General Bureau, and the Lazarus Group. Accused of orchestrating a $1.5 billion theft, the case secured a preliminary injunction to freeze stolen assets. This move is aimed at recovering funds and reinforcing accountability for cybercrime.
The injunction targets unidentified individuals holding the assets. Bybit's legal strategy focuses on asset preservation while collaborating with authorities and industry partners to combat crypto-related threats.
Since the February 2025 cyberattack, Bybit has retrieved $48.4 million in stolen assets. A further $30.5 million has been frozen across 28 exchanges. In cooperation with global agencies, Bybit is committed to disrupting laundering networks and strengthening the security ecosystem.
