1&1 O-RAN Completes Largest Customer Migration in German Mobile History

1&1 has completed the largest migration of mobile customers in Germany, achieving this milestone ahead of schedule. The company's 1&1 O-RAN network now serves over 12 million customers, marking it as the largest mobile network worldwide based on Open RAN technology. This technology allows for flexible combination of network components from various manufacturers, ensuring innovation and independence.

The migration fulfills the German Federal Network Agency's requirement for competitive independence before the December 31, 2025 deadline. Previously, 1&1 operated under a Mobile Virtual Network Operator model but now stands as an independent network operator. The transition averaged up to 50,000 customer migrations per day.

Ralph Dommermuth, CEO of 1&1, highlighted that the network provides more competition and greater consumer choice in Germany. This achievement underscores the fast and efficient deployment of high-performance mobile infrastructure, solidifying Germany's digital sovereignty in telecommunications.
