ENGIE Enhances Belgian Electricity Resilience with New Capacities
ENGIE recently bolstered Belgium's electricity resilience with the launch of the Flémalle combined-cycle gas turbine plant, boasting 875 MW. This is pivotal for Belgium's electricity security. Additionally, ENGIE commissioned the Vilvoorde battery storage system ahead of schedule and initiated a new battery project in Drogenbos, reflecting the group's commitment to reliable, low-carbon energy.
The Flémalle plant, a result of Belgium's Capacity Remuneration Mechanism, stands out with an efficiency exceeding 63% and the potential to meet the electricity needs of over a million households. Meanwhile, Vilvoorde, one of Europe's largest battery storage facilities, promises significant capacity, supporting ENGIE's objective of 380 MW installed by 2027.
These projects underscore ENGIE's European ambition, with ongoing developments in Romania and Italy further supplementing their renewable and storage capacity goals.
