The Brittany Foundry: Innovation in the protection of submarine cables
On March 6, 2026, Europlasma announced that its subsidiary, Fonderie de Bretagne, was entering into technical discussions with the Pennavel floating offshore wind farm project. The objective was to develop cast iron protective half-shells for submarine cables.
The Pennavel project, resulting from the "AO5 Sud Bretagne" tender, contributes to France's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050. FDB designed a prototype 3D-printed protective half-shell, suitable for several offshore wind farm projects. Installed in pairs, these shells provide robust mechanical protection.
This initiative is part of FDB's diversification strategy, demonstrating its expertise and ability to enter niche markets, while contributing to the safety of underwater electrical infrastructure.
