Mobile Technologies Boost Africa's Economy in 2025
A report by GSMA reveals that mobile technologies contributed $240 billion to Africa's economy in 2025, equating to 7.8% of the continent's GDP. The sector also generated 13 million jobs and $45 billion in public revenues, highlighting the integral role of mobile connectivity in Africa's digital transformation and economic expansion.
Africa's mobile industry is embarking on a new development phase, focusing on harnessing the complete potential of digital networks. Telecommunications operators are evolving beyond mere providers of connectivity to become essential partners in digital transformation. This involves the deployment of AI, expansion of digital services, and enabling developers through standardised APIs.
By 2030, the contribution of mobile technologies to Africa’s economy is expected to reach $290 billion. This growth aligns with increasing digital adoption and continued support for innovation and productivity across the region.
