Operational Disruptions Impact HHLA's Half-Year Results
Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) reported a challenging first half of 2026. Amid geopolitical tensions and harsh winter conditions, operational disruptions have notably affected performance. Container throughput declined by 6.7% to 2,959 thousand TEU, and container transport dropped by 1.2% to 985 thousand TEU. Despite these declines, group revenue increased by 3.0% to €910.9 million, attributed partly to storage fees and price adjustments.
The operating result (EBIT) saw a dramatic decrease to €51.3 million, down from the previous year's €79.4 million. Container terminals in Hamburg experienced a 7.3% reduction in throughput, while international terminals noted a 4.6% rise. The container segment's revenue stayed stable at €426.6 million, despite a 59.9% drop in EBIT.
Looking forward, HHLA revised its 2026 forecast, expecting slight decreases in throughput but significant revenue growth. This outlook considers ongoing modernisation and infrastructure challenges along with economic uncertainties.
