Implenia wins major contract for geological repository in Sweden

Swiss construction company Implenia has signed a significant agreement with Swedish company SKB to build the first section of a deep geological repository for radioactive waste near Forsmark, Sweden. The project, valued at several hundred million Swiss francs, is located 500 meters underground and includes the planning, design, and construction of various tunnels and associated infrastructure.

This contract highlights Implenia's expertise in tunnel construction and energy infrastructure. The project will begin in autumn 2025, with completion scheduled for 2033. SKB plans to expand the repository until 2080 to store up to 12,000 tonnes of waste, underscoring a long-term commitment to the safe management of nuclear waste.
