Kontron Partners with European OEM for 5G Automotive Modules

Kontron AG, a prominent player in IoT/embedded computer technology, has secured a significant contract with a leading European car manufacturer. The contract involves the integration of Kontron's 5G Automotive Network Access Devices (NADs) into the manufacturer's vehicle platform. These modules are developed and produced in Germany, marking a notable step towards European technological sovereignty and security. Initially, the contract covers approximately 150,000 modules with possibilities for expansion.

The production of these modules is centralized at Kontron's new facility in Düsseldorf, which began operations on July 13, 2026. This agreement signifies an important milestone, as Kontron aims to offer a European alternative for mobile communication modules, bolstering local supply chains and cybersecurity.

The devices serve as communication interfaces in modern vehicles, enabling connectivity solutions such as over-the-air updates and future V2X applications. This move reinforces the emphasis placed by European manufacturers on resilient supply chains and technological autonomy.
