Holcim Expands Eco-Friendly Cement Production in the Czech Republic

Holcim has inaugurated a new calcined clay production line at its Čížkovice facility, marking the first of its kind in the Czech Republic. This development is part of Holcim's broader strategy to enhance its sustainable offerings. The new line will facilitate the annual supply of 580,000 tons of ECOPlanet low-carbon cement.

The technological innovation employed involves replacing clinker with calcined clay, sourced locally, reducing the carbon footprint of the cement by approximately 30% without compromising performance. This initiative represents Holcim Czech Republic's most substantial investment, totaling around CZK 1 billion, with partial funding from the Ministry of the Environment's Modernization Fund.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš emphasized the modern, competitive, and environmentally responsible nature of the project. Holcim plans global expansion of this technology, building on successful implementations in France and Ecuador.
