Aurubis Celebrates 160 Years in the Metal Industry

Aurubis AG, headquartered in Hamburg, marks its 160th anniversary this year, celebrating its journey from a local copper fabricator to a leading global non-ferrous metal provider and the largest copper recycler worldwide. Founded originally as Norddeutsche Affinerie in 1866, the company has played a crucial role in various industrial advancements, from electrification to digitalization and the energy transition.

Aurubis' transformation is attributed to its focus on innovation and adaptability, states CEO Dr. Toralf Haag. Its growth into a multimetal entity capable of extracting over 20 metals positions the company as a key player in supporting European industrial infrastructure and technological advancement.

Today, Aurubis operates in over 20 countries, employing approximately 7,200 people. The company remains committed to sustainability and circular economy principles, emphasizing resource efficiency and technological growth as core business components.
