Nordex Group Unveils Innovative Hybrid Tower with New Turbine Installation
On January 26, 2025, Nordex Group achieved a milestone by installing its N175/6.X turbine on a newly developed hybrid tower in Santow, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. This marks the first time the turbine has been mounted on a 179-metre concrete-steel tower, the tallest by Nordex to date.
The hybrid tower design combines proven concrete tower technology with advanced adaptations, enabling higher hub heights. This elevation improves turbine efficiency, allowing rotor operation in stronger wind currents. The N175/6.X, with a 175-meter rotor diameter and up to 6.8 MW output, is optimized for medium and low-wind areas.
Following a prior installation in Schleswig-Holstein, the Santow turbine is the second of its model, designed to validate processes from manufacturing to installation. The company plans future releases with hub heights extending to 199 meters.
