Nordic Semiconductor Unveils Lifetime Flat-Rate FOTA Solution

Nordic Semiconductor has announced a new FOTA solution via their nRF Cloud platform. Designed to prepare manufacturers for the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), this initiative offers a lifetime firmware update and device management license with a one-time upfront cost. The CRA mandates secure updates for connected devices in Europe starting in 2027. Nordic's solution is integrated into its low-power wireless portfolio, providing a turnkey approach to compliance.

nRF Cloud, pre-integrated on Nordic devices, enables manufacturers to efficiently manage secure updates, facilitating CRA readiness. The underlying technology, supported by Memfault's infrastructure acquired in 2025, promises to reduce lifecycle maintenance efforts while ensuring regulatory compliance. Nordic aims to make this process straightforward and cost-effective, turning regulatory challenges into a strategic advantage.
