Zachary Athekame Joins Olympique Lyonnais on Loan
Olympique Lyonnais has announced the acquisition of Swiss defender Zachary Athekame on loan from AC Milan until June 2027. The arrangement does not include a purchase option. Born in Geneva, Athekame honed his skills in local clubs and debuted professionally in Switzerland's second division.
His performances caught the attention of Young Boys, where he joined in 2024. Athekame gained UEFA Champions League experience with the Swiss club, appearing in eight matches, five as a starter. He moved to AC Milan in 2025, playing 27 Serie A games and scoring twice.
Athekame's international journey includes 17 caps for Switzerland's Under-21 team, highlighting his early promise at 21. Olympique Lyonnais values his speed, strength, and versatility, anticipating his contribution to coach Paulo Fonseca's lineup.
