Porsche Expands in High-Performance Battery Sector with V4Smart Acquisition

Porsche AG has acquired V4Drive GmbH from VARTA AG, marking a significant step in its expansion into the high-performance battery cell industry. With this acquisition, the company has been rebranded as V4Smart to highlight the versatility of its ultra-high-performance lithium-ion cylindrical cells beyond automotive applications. Porsche becomes the majority shareholder, while VARTA retains a minority stake.

V4Smart's cells are already integrated into Porsche's 911 GTS models, enhancing their driving performance. The production takes place at the Ellwangen facility, soon to be expanded to Nördlingen. This strategic move will see 375 employees working across both sites by the end of 2025, with many coming from VARTA.

Porsche Werkzeugbau GmbH plays a crucial role in producing these cells, leveraging renewable energy and innovative systems. This acquisition not only strengthens Porsche's position in the battery sector but also supports VARTA's restructuring efforts. Future plans include further expansion and innovation in battery production systems.
