Sceye's Stratospheric Platform Completes Historic U.S.-Japan Roundtrip
Sceye has successfully concluded its Service Test 1 (ST1) mission, marking a milestone in stratospheric infrastructure. The U.S.-based aerospace company completed a 30-day, 30,000 km roundtrip flight between New Mexico and Japan, showcasing their High Altitude Platform Systems (HAPS). During the mission, Sceye partnered with SoftBank Corp. to demonstrate broadband connectivity, drone communication, and edge computing from the stratosphere.
ST1's operation over Japan confirmed the technical capabilities of HAPS, achieving mobile broadband to unaltered devices and reducing communication latency by over 40% compared to traditional cloud processing. The mission highlights the stratosphere as a viable site for future connectivity services, potentially influencing 6G development.
Covering the equivalent of 500 terrestrial towers, Sceye's "cell tower in the sky" holds promise for wider mobile broadband coverage. This journey signifies the first step of Sceye's Service Test Program, aiming for commercial deployment of stratospheric infrastructure in partnership with global telecommunications firms like SoftBank.
