Schaeffler to End Production in Steinhagen, Integrate Products at Schweinfurt

Schaeffler AG announced the cessation of production at its Steinhagen site by the end of 2026, integrating its product portfolio into the Schweinfurt facility. This move aims to maintain competitiveness amid a prolonged economic downturn and rising competition in the Bearings & Industrial Solutions division.

The decision affects approximately 200 employees at Steinhagen, where the production of spherical plain bearings for industrial applications has been located. Despite efforts to explore alternatives like new orders and renegotiating supplier prices, these measures proved insufficient for viability.

About 20 employees will remain in Steinhagen. Schaeffler has pledged to implement the transition in a socially equitable manner, working closely with employee representatives to finalize details.
