Singapore and SMX Lead in Plastic Sustainability with Global Passport Technology

Singapore has launched the first national plastic passport program, a collaborative effort with ASTAR and enabled by SMX technology. This program marks plastics at the molecular level, providing a global passport that tracks their lifecycle. This initiative transforms recycling from fragmented intentions into robust national infrastructure.

This move offers Singapore an economic edge, aligning production standards with global markets and positioning it as a pivotal testbed in ASEAN. Singapore generates 957,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually, most of which is incinerated. By rechanneling part of this waste into an SMX-verified loop, significant financial gains are possible.

While Singapore takes the lead, SMX supplies the essential technology. Their molecular markers ensure plastics are traced, verified, and certified globally. SMX's approach also supports financial instruments like the Plastic Cycle Token, opening new economic avenues in recycling.
