Technip Energies, Airbus, Safran, and Tereos Join Forces for SAF Production in France
Technip Energies, Airbus, Safran, and Tereos have announced the formation of "Rebound," a joint venture aimed at developing a large-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production facility in Dunkirk, France. The venture will focus on the Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) pathway to produce approximately 160,000 tons of SAF annually. This initiative supports European energy sovereignty and France's leadership in energy transition.
The project involves significant investments in its development phase, including engineering studies to achieve a Final Investment Decision. It aligns with EU Refuel Aviation regulations, which foresee increasing SAF blending mandates, indicating strong future demand.
As a lead developer, Technip Energies contributes expertise in technology scaling, while Airbus and Safran participate as industrial partners. Tereos will supply advanced ethanol essential for SAF production. A site in the Port of Dunkirk has been secured, providing logistical advantages for the venture. The joint venture is set for finalisation later this year upon meeting customary closing conditions.
