Thailand and Canada Collaborate on Carbon Capture in Cement Industry

The Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) has partnered with Canada to introduce carbon capture technology in Thailand's cement industry. This initiative, conducted within the "Saraburi Sandbox," aims to transition the sector towards a low-carbon economy. A Mobile Carbon Capture Unit (MCCU) has been deployed for testing its effectiveness under real industrial conditions. This effort is part of Thailand's roadmap to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Supported by Environment and Climate Change Canada and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, this project focuses on developing a technology ecosystem for decarbonizing cement and concrete sectors. The MCCU, developed by the University of Regina, will be assessed for its performance in Thailand to enhance industry capacities.

Chulalongkorn University collaborates by transferring knowledge, while the "Saraburi Sandbox" facilitates public and private partnerships to pilot carbon reduction technologies. This project emphasizes international cooperation to integrate clean technology and foster future investment in both Thailand and the ASEAN region.
