Gender Pay Gap Persists Despite Job Changes
A recent survey by The Stepstone Group highlights a significant gender pay gap in Germany when employees change jobs. The median salary increase for men stands at 10%, compared to only 5% for women. This disparity indicates that job changes, often seen as a way to earn more, do not equally benefit women. The survey, involving 297 recruiters and 3,070 employees, reveals that salary negotiations are stressful for many, with 60% feeling uncomfortable, significantly affecting women.
These negotiations, meant to balance pay, often exacerbate inequalities. Managers possess more confidence than specialists, creating an imbalance during negotiations. The survey also notes a cultural shift among younger employees towards more openness about salaries. The EU Pay Transparency Directive, set for 2026, aims to combat discrepancies by mandating companies disclose salary structures and address gender pay gaps.
