UnionPay Unveils Agentic Payment Open Protocol Framework

UnionPay International has launched the Agentic Payment Open Protocol (APOP) framework, aiming to build a secure, inclusive, and global payment ecosystem. The APOP framework facilitates agent-based payments by connecting various players through trusted routing. This setup allows seamless integration for agents, merchants, financial institutions, and technology platforms.

APOP is based on four core capabilities. It manages agent identity lifecycle, offers end-to-end intent management, provides streamlined user identity management, and maintains comprehensive payment authorization services. These elements collectively enhance security and trust within agentic payment processes.

Emphasizing openness and interoperability, APOP is built on UnionPay's global acceptance network. It aligns with regulatory requirements, prioritizes security, enhances trust, and offers broad compatibility for participants. This initiative is expected to streamline payment processes and improve industry standards globally.
