Valneva's IXCHIQ® Vaccine Loses UK Authorization

Valneva SE has announced that IXCHIQ®, its chikungunya vaccine, has lost its marketing authorization in the UK. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) revoked the authorization following a standard benefit-risk review by the UK's Commission on Human Medicines (CHM). This decision was based on previous safety data, with no new safety concerns identified.

IXCHIQ®, launched in the UK in mid-2025, saw limited sales and was not actively distributed for months. Valneva anticipates minimal financial implications from this decision, as no product recall is necessary and no product remains on the UK market.

The vaccine remains authorized in the EU, Canada, Brazil, and other regions. Valneva continues to view the benefit-risk profile of IXCHIQ® as favorable, supported by ongoing vaccination strategies in Brazil.
