Waga Energy to Produce Renewable Natural Gas at Eco-Hill Landfill
Waga Energy has been chosen to build a Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) unit at the Eco-Hill Landfill in Atkinson, Illinois. Associated with Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS), a major Midwest waste management firm, the facility will convert landfill gas into renewable energy for the region.
The unit, featuring Waga Energy's WAGABOX® technology, will transform landfill gas into high-quality RNG. Set to produce approximately 610,000 MMBtu annually, it aims to reduce CO2 emissions by about 47,500 metric tons annually.
Under a long-term agreement, Waga Energy will manage the unit, while Eco-Hill Landfill shares in the revenue. Operations are expected to start in 2028, utilizing methane previously flared as a new energy resource for Atkinson and beyond.
Matt Spencer, CEO of LRS, emphasized the project's role in sustainability, while Guénaël Prince, CEO of Waga Energy, highlighted their mutual commitment to environmental protection.
