ZCCM-IH Begins Maamba Solar Project Commissioning
ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc has announced the commissioning of the Maamba Solar PV Project in Zambia. As of 24 September 2026, the 100 MWac solar project has started supplying power to the national grid. This initiative, a joint venture with Nava Global PTE Limited, marks a significant step for Zambia's energy sector.
The plant, located in the Sinazongwe District, features advanced solar technology, including bifacial PV modules on single-axis trackers. With a dedicated substation and a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with ZESCO Limited, the project ensures long-term revenue.
The commissioning involves detailed testing of various systems to meet technical and regulatory standards. ZCCM-IH's CEO, Mr. Kakenenwa Muyangwa, highlighted the project's role in enhancing Zambia's energy security and diversification amidst hydropower challenges expected from the El Niño phenomenon.
