Bulkoid Study Finds Up to 5.1x Higher TikTok for You Page Discovery Potential with Strong Early Engagement

Lasi, Romania, October 12th, 2026, FinanceWire

Research analysing more than 25,000 TikTok account-level scenarios reveals how early views, likes, comments and engagement timing are associated with increased content discovery potential.

Bulkoid, a social media growth company, has announced the findings of its latest research study examining the relationship between early video engagement and content discovery on TikTok. The study, which analysed more than 25,000 TikTok account-level scenarios, found that videos demonstrating strong early engagement signals achieved up to 5.1 times higher estimated likelihood of reaching TikTok's For You Page (FYP) compared with videos showing minimal initial activity.

The research, titled TikTok FYP Early Engagement Study, examined several factors influencing estimated content discovery potential, including initial video views, likes, comments, follower count and the timing of audience interactions.

The findings highlight the importance of early audience engagement in building video momentum and suggest that multiple engagement signals working together are associated with stronger discovery potential than views alone.

Study Identifies Significant Differences Across Early Engagement Levels

According to Bulkoid's analysis, the estimated likelihood of achieving wider visibility increased progressively as additional engagement signals were introduced.

The study identified the following results:

  • 1.8x higher estimated FYP likelihood for videos generating stronger early views compared with the low-activity baseline.
  • 2.7x higher estimated FYP likelihood when early views were accompanied by likes.
  • 3.9x higher estimated FYP likelihood when videos generated a combination of views, likes and comments.
  • 5.1x higher estimated FYP likelihood among videos exhibiting the strongest combined early engagement profiles.

These findings indicate that the relationship between engagement and content discovery extends beyond view counts, with multiple types of audience interaction associated with stronger estimated visibility outcomes.

"Our research highlights the importance of building meaningful audience engagement during the earliest stages of content distribution," said David for Bulkoid. "While views remain an important performance indicator, our analysis suggests that a combination of views, likes and comments is associated with significantly stronger discovery potential. For creators and brands, understanding these engagement patterns can support more informed content strategies."

Smaller TikTok Creators Demonstrate Greater Relative Discovery Potential

The study also examined how follower count influenced the relationship between early engagement and estimated FYP visibility.

Among accounts with fewer than 1,000 followers, the strongest early engagement profiles were associated with an estimated 5.1x increase in FYP likelihood compared with the baseline.

Accounts with between 1,000 and 10,000 followers recorded an estimated 4.4x increase, while accounts exceeding 50,000 followers demonstrated a comparatively smaller 2.8x increase.

Bulkoid's findings suggest that early engagement may be particularly relevant for smaller creators seeking to expand their reach beyond their existing follower base.

The company noted that larger accounts often benefit from established audiences that can generate initial interactions naturally, whereas smaller creators may depend more heavily on early engagement momentum to improve their discovery prospects.

Engagement Timing Emerges as a Key Performance Indicator

Beyond the volume and variety of audience interactions, Bulkoid's research identified engagement timing as another important factor associated with estimated content discovery.

Videos receiving engagement during the initial launch window demonstrated the strongest relative performance, reaching 5.1 times the estimated FYP likelihood of the low-activity baseline.

By comparison, videos receiving engagement between 24 and 48 hours after publication recorded a 2.9x relative likelihood, while those receiving engagement after 48 hours demonstrated a 1.7x increase.

These findings reinforce the importance of the early post-publication period and suggest that creators and businesses may benefit from monitoring initial audience response alongside longer-term content performance.

"The timing of engagement was another important pattern identified in our analysis," the Bulkoid David added. "Videos that generated audience activity shortly after publication consistently showed stronger estimated discovery potential than those where engagement developed later. The findings underline the value of understanding not only how audiences interact with content, but also when those interactions occur."

Research Offers Insights Into TikTok Content Discovery

TikTok has previously acknowledged that its For You recommendation system considers multiple signals, including user interactions, video information and other factors when recommending content.

However, TikTok does not publicly disclose the precise weighting or formula governing its recommendation system.

Bulkoid emphasised that its findings represent estimates generated through the company's internal research model and should not be interpreted as official TikTok algorithm measurements or guaranteed probabilities of achieving viral visibility.

The reported 5.1x figure represents a relative comparison between high-engagement scenarios and a low-activity baseline within Bulkoid's analytical framework.

The research identifies associations between early engagement patterns and estimated discovery potential rather than establishing that specific engagement activities directly cause wider distribution.

Through the publication of this study, Bulkoid aims to contribute additional research-based insights into social media engagement trends and help creators, marketers and businesses better understand the factors associated with content visibility.
