GoSun Announces Moonrider 27 Solar Electric Tractor for Small Farms and Rural Properties

CINCINNATI, OH, October 1st, 2026, FinanceWire

GoSun has announced the North American introduction of the GoSun Moonrider 27, a compact four-wheel-drive electric tractor designed for small farms, vineyards, homesteads, estates, campuses, and rural properties. Developed through GoSun's partnership with Moonrider in India, the tractor combines a 27-horsepower electric drivetrain with a 24 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and an optional 1,100-watt solar canopy.

The Moonrider 27 is designed to provide a battery-powered alternative for common compact-tractor applications, including mowing, tilling, spreading, material hauling, blade work, trailer operations, and general property maintenance. GoSun expects initial deliveries to begin in early 2027.

GoSun Introduces a Compact Electric Tractor for Property Owners

The GoSun Moonrider 27 delivers 27 horsepower, or 20 kW, through a four-wheel-drive drivetrain. The compact tractor includes a rear power take-off rated at 540/540E and a hydraulic three-point hitch with a rated lifting capacity of 1,653 pounds.

The electric tractor is designed around familiar compact-tractor equipment and connections, allowing compatible implements such as mowers, tillers, cutters, spreaders, blades, and trailers to be used for a range of property-maintenance applications.

With nine forward gears and three reverse gears, the Moonrider 27 is intended to provide operators with flexibility across different tasks and working conditions. GoSun also lists a turning radius of approximately 4.6 feet, a specification that can support maneuverability around smaller fields, vineyards, gardens, buildings, and other confined areas.

Solar Canopy Adds Renewable Charging Capability

A key feature of the Moonrider 27 is its optional 1,100-watt solar canopy. The canopy allows the tractor to generate additional electricity from sunlight while parked or operating in suitable conditions.

According to GoSun, a full day of favorable sunshine can provide approximately 1.5 additional hours of runtime. Actual solar production and additional operating time can vary depending on sunlight, weather, panel condition, location, and operating conditions.

The solar canopy is designed to complement conventional charging rather than replace it. The Moonrider 27 can be charged using its 220V AC fast charger, while solar generation provides an additional source of energy during the day.

GoSun has also introduced a solar carport option that can provide another approach to solar charging for electric equipment and property operations.

24 kWh Battery Supports Compact-Tractor Applications

The Moonrider 27 is equipped with a 24 kWh LFP battery. GoSun publishes an estimated runtime of approximately five hours on a full charge, although actual operating time depends on the workload, terrain, attachments, PTO usage, and other operating conditions.

The supplied 220V AC fast charger is listed as capable of charging the battery from zero to 80% in approximately 2.5 hours.

The use of an LFP battery is intended to support repeated charging and electric operation across the tractor's expected applications. For heavier workloads, operators may experience different energy consumption than during lighter property-maintenance tasks.

GoSun Highlights Potential Operating-Cost Differences

GoSun lists the Moonrider 27 at $19,995, including the tractor and 220V charger. The company has also promoted an early purchase option involving the 1,100-watt solar array.

According to GoSun's estimates, fuel, oil changes, filters, belts, maintenance servicing, and downtime associated with a comparable diesel tractor could total approximately $15,500 over five years. GoSun estimates approximately $500 for comparable categories with the Moonrider 27, representing an estimated difference of approximately $15,000 over five years.

These figures are company estimates rather than guaranteed savings. Actual ownership costs can vary based on electricity prices, solar production, maintenance requirements, financing, charging infrastructure, battery performance, attachments, and the diesel tractor used for comparison.

Potential rebates or incentives may also vary by state and by the buyer's eligibility. Buyers should verify applicable programs and requirements before making a purchase decision.

Designed for Small Farms, Vineyards and Rural Properties

GoSun is targeting the Moonrider 27 toward owners of smaller agricultural and rural properties that need a compact tractor for recurring maintenance and light-duty work.

For small farms, the tractor can support activities such as mowing, tilling, spreading, hauling, and other property tasks. Vineyards can potentially benefit from the tractor's compact configuration and four-wheel drive for maneuvering around rows and maintaining surrounding property.

Homesteaders can use compact tractor equipment for land maintenance, material handling, and recurring outdoor work, while estates and campuses can use the vehicle for grounds maintenance and property operations.

The Moonrider 27 produces no tailpipe emissions during operation and operates with less engine noise than conventional diesel equipment. These characteristics may be relevant for properties where equipment is used near barns, greenhouses, storage areas, or other locations where noise and exhaust are considerations.

North American Availability Planned for 2027

GoSun and Moonrider introduced the electric tractor to the North American market at the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa. GoSun currently expects the first deliveries to begin in early 2027.

The company encourages prospective buyers to confirm current production, availability, delivery schedules, equipment configurations, and applicable purchase terms before ordering.
